SHRM has many resources for both students and new HR professionals.

Utah SHRM 2017 Student Case Competition

Students interested in HR - this is your chance to put your knowledge to the test!   This statewide competition is sponsored by the Utah Human resources State Council offering a fun, competitive learning experience and we encourage all to participate.

    • WHAT IS A CASE COMPETITION?

In this “realistic job preview” competition, team members leverage knowledge acquired through studies and apply it to a realistic HR situation likely to be encountered in the work world.  In fact, our case has been prepared by a local company specifically for our Utah event! This competition requires integrated HR thinking, ethical decision-making, and strong communication and presentation skills.

Teams will analyze and solve a business case, and prepare both a written executive summary and 15-minute oral presentation within a 4-day timeframe. Oral presentation rounds will be held at Brigham Young University this year. Teams will compete by delivering their 15-minute oral presentation to a panel of judges and answering additional questions.  The judges will rate the oral and written presentations based on rubrics that will be provided with the case.

Cash prizes from UHRSC will be awarded to the top teams in the undergraduate and graduate divisions based on the total highest points from written materials and oral presentations – hopefully to contribute to their teams’ expenses for competing in the SHRM Regional Competition this year.  We will be following SHRM’s rules and regulations at http://conferences.shrm.org/2016-case-competition-and-career-summits/student-case-competition
